About me
I make economics easy and fun. I'm the Chief Economist at Simplicity, and I've spent more than 25 years as an economist across Wellington, Melbourne and Auckland — at ANZ, Goldman Sachs JBWere, NZIER, Sense Partners and now Simplicity.
Alongside the day job I write books, comment in the media, sit on boards, and speak on stage about the New Zealand economy. I'm a Lincoln University economics honours graduate and a CFA charterholder. I live in Auckland with my wife and two sons.

Shamubeel Eaqub makes economics easy and fun. Shamubeel is the Chief Economist at Simplicity. He is also an author, media commentator and a thought-leading public speaker.
He graduated with Honours in Economics from Lincoln University and is also a CFA Charterholder. He has 25 years of experience as an economist in Wellington, Melbourne and Auckland in leading financial institutions and consultancy (ANZ Bank, Goldman Sachs JBWere, NZIER, Sense Partners and Simplicity).
He balances a portfolio of economics, consulting, public speaking, governance and family duties. He lives in Auckland with his wife and two sons.
